A Bikita businessman is smiling all the way to the bank after the High Court ordered power utility, ZETDC to pay him US$580 000 incurred as loss of business after the power company unilaterally switched off power at his business premises at Nyika Growth Point.

It is Christimas come early for Charles Musimiki who has finally won a civil dispute which commenced in 2015.

The businessman dragged the company to court as he had lost nearly US$600 000 in potential rentals as he had entered into a lease agreement with a company which would have made him receive US$10 000 monthly rentals for a 5 year period.

Musimiki’s lawyer, Mr Everisto Matiza said ZETDC without explanation switched off power supply at his premises, resulting in the other party cancelling the lease agreement with his client.

A court order handed down by High Court judge, Justice Chikowero effectively means ZETDC will have to fork out more than half a million US dollars for its unlawful conduct which prejudiced Musimiki of potential revenue from his property.

It was additionally ordered that ZETDC pay the cost of the lawsuit on a legal practitioner and client scale plus interest on the prescribed rate from 3 August 2017.
